Dan is an Israeli ex-soldier who fought in the second Lebanon war. In Self Portrait he photographs his surviving platoon friends, coming to the understanding that it is the best way to represent his own experiences of this war. In bringing the pictures of his compatriots together into one image, he attempts to articulate his own ordeal through them, questioning the apparent normality of their poses and his relationship to them.
