Jad' s project The Fallen arose from the high numbers of casualties resulting from the war in Afghanistan. Using the individual portraits of every single fallen soldier, Jad creates one overall portrait of fallen men and women by reducing each of these photographs to a thin transparent image layered one on top of another. In this work he simultaneously shows us the social body and the individual body in one image. The result is a face of spectral and ghostlike form that challenges the corporeal notion of the body in war.
