Michal Tkachenko
Michal's work comes from a seven month stay in Liberia where she documented the effects of the 14-year civil war as both as a photojournalist and artist. Michal tries to authenticate the experiences of Liberians through a series of portraits that attempt to provide some dignity for the people portrayed. In these works, Michal avoids the clichés of war. Instead, she tells us nothing about her subjects’ war experiences but tries to empower them through their subjection to the artist's process.
